Position Summary
The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining agricultural, lawn & garden, and tractor equipment. This position requires strong mechanical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to provide exceptional service to our customers.
Responsibilities
- Read job orders and inspect equipment to determine malfunction and plan repair procedures.
- Ascertain service problems and services by listening to customers’ description of symptoms, clarifying description of problems, conducting inspections, taking test drives, checking vehicle maintenance records, and examining service schedules.
- Diagnose and repair 2-cycle, 4-cycle, and diesel engines, as well as hydraulic, electrical, and drivetrain systems.
- Service and maintain tractors, mowers, and agricultural equipment.
- Perform Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) on new and used equipment.
- Operate power tools, welders, forklifts, and diagnostic equipment safely and correctly.
- Review technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins to determine repair requirements.
- Replace or repair transmissions, hydraulic pumps, fuel systems, and electrical components as needed.
- Test repaired units to verify conformance to manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all work performed, time spent, parts used, service records, and sales receipts.
- Keep customers informed about additional repairs, cost estimates, and completion timelines.
- Maintain condition of tools, vehicles, and shop equipment; follow all safety procedures and OSHA standards.
- Assist with customer equipment loading when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Dependable, efficient, and motivated to deliver quality repairs
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues
- Proficient in reading schematics, service manuals, and performing electronic diagnostics
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Basic computer literacy for parts lookup, service record management, and sales receipts
- Physically able to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a non-climate-controlled environment or outdoors
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and maneuver around large equipment safely
- Visual acuity sufficient to detect small cracks, leaks, or worn components
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical training or degree preferred
- 1–2+ years of experience in agricultural, lawn & garden, tractor, or small engine repair preferred
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Welding or fabrication experience a plus
- Willingness to work occasional Saturdays and overtime as needed
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and teach others
